RS SOUTH AFRICA PARTNERS WITH UCT TO EMPOWER THE NEXT GENERATION OF ENGINEERS AND INNOVATORS

Empowering the next generation of engineers, innovators, and technologists is critical to help them develop essential skills, gain valuable experience, and find inspiration to make a positive impact on the world. This is according to Wesley Hood, Education and Social Impact Specialist at RS South Africa, a trading brand of RS Group plc (LSE: RS1), a global provider of product and service solutions for industrial customers.

STEM skills are in high demand in many industries, from manufacturing to engineering, healthcare, and information technology. However, South Africa faces a shortage of skilled STEM workers, posing a significant obstacle to the country’s development.

Bolstering South Africa’s national effort in this regard is RS South Africa, which is spearheading STEM at a tertiary level by providing sponsorships to leading universities. The most recent example in this regard was a significant donation of products to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

The UCT sponsorship is testament to the company’s commitment to these principles. “We believe that by strengthening STEM education, we are not only investing in the future, but also inspiring young engineers to create a better world,” stresses Hood.

RS South Africa has maintained a close working relationship with UCT as a valued customer over the years. “We have a good understanding of the needs of universities worldwide, as well as the significance of the industry support necessary for institutions to sustain their innovation and growth,” says Hood.

In addition to providing resources and support to tertiary institutions, RS Grassroots aims to inspire the next generation in engineering and technology. The initiative provides comprehensive support and mentorship to engineering students and young enthusiasts worldwide. “We support student development and provide opportunities for hands-on experience, preparing students for their careers,” says Hood.

RS South Africa is extending its collaboration with UCT by supporting its STEM High School Outreach Programme, which aims to encourage students to choose engineering as their preferred career path. In addition, the company supports networking and work readiness programmes to ensure students are well-prepared to embark on their careers, equipped with the necessary skills.
