Terra Firma announces wheeled energy projects for two Gauteng solar PV sites

South African independent power producer and renewable energy company Terra Firma has announced a new R1.3 billion utility-scale solar energy build programme that will deliver a combined 110 MWp of wheeled energy services to two utility-scale projects once completed.

The projects are currently in development at two sites: the Hammanskraal 87 MWp solar PV project and the Rietfontein 23 MWp solar PV project.

The wheeling plants will interconnect with Eskom’s distribution system, enabling customers with signed power purchase agreements to maximise their low-carbon energy supply through off-site solutions.

Grant Berndsen, CEO of Terra Firma, says the wheeling projects could deliver up to 40% discount to customers’ current energy costs.

The company expects to reach financial close in the second quarter of 2025 – to be followed by an 18-month construction period – and customers will gain access to the wheeled energy and start receiving carbon credits to purchase the renewable energy from August 2026.

“By leveraging the intelligent energy data delivered using our systems, customers can make more informed decisions about their energy needs with the ability to integrate next-gen technologies such as artificial intelligence for greater energy and operational efficiency as well as realise maximum benefit of a project’s green attributes,” says Berndsen.
