Zambia and Japan Deepen Ties with Focus on Investment and Cooperation

Tokyo: Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema concluded a successful state visit to Japan, solidifying bilateral relations and attracting significant Japanese investment to his country.

During the visit, President Hichilema met with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, reaffirming two key agreements: the Policy Dialogue Mechanism, aimed at fostering regular political consultations, and the Bilateral Investment Agreement, designed to protect and promote investment between the two nations.

“To further our cooperation, we have agreed to enhance our bilateral policy dialogue,” President Hichilema stated.

Earlier, the Zambian president addressed the Zambia-Japan Business Forum, showcasing his country’s abundant natural resources and highlighting the stable and investor-friendly environment cultivated by his government. He specifically encouraged Japanese companies to explore investment opportunities in Zambia’s burgeoning copper and critical minerals sectors, as well as in the country’s growing energy sector.

“We firmly believe that Zambia is the ideal destination for business and look forward to fostering a stronger partnership with Japan,” President Hichilema emphasized.

The visit underscored the growing importance of the Zambia-Japan relationship, with both nations seeking to strengthen economic ties and explore new avenues for cooperation.
