ZAMBIA TO HOST MINING AND INVESTMENT INSAKA 2024
From October 7 to 11, the Zambian government will host the Mining and Investment Insaka 2024, a conference poised to attract local and international stakeholders from the mining industry.
The Minister of Mining and Mineral Development emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting Zambian artisanal and small-scale miners, helping them progress to junior miners and eventually to large mining conglomerates.
Artisanal and small-scale mining encompasses a wide range of activities that add value to raw materials, producing goods such as bricks and paving stones for construction, granite and gemstones for retail, and quarry dust and silica for industrial use.
At the launch of the 2024 Mining Insaka, Permanent Secretary for Mining Hapenga Kabeta stated, “The hosting of such an event is fundamental and transformative as it has significant multiple effects across the whole economy. The people who come will require accommodation and transport.”
By hosting the 2024 Insaka, Zambia signals to the mining community both within the continent and globally that it is ready to collaborate and form partnerships to strengthen its mining industry.
Phesto Musonda, President of the Subsahara Gemstone Exchange, remarked, “I think the world is positioning itself to come and invest significantly in this extractive industry. The New Dawn government, in the past two years, has demonstrated that they are very open-minded.”
